What it is
Awareness is the lateral lens — the ambient sense of what's happening around you that a shared office provided and distributed work quietly erased. It is a live feed of what teams are shipping, deciding, and learning, assembled so context arrives without a meeting and without anyone chasing it.
It is the only lens that travels sideways first. Status is not pulled out of people; it accumulates as a by-product of the work and is offered to the people who need it to stay oriented.
What it’s for
To keep people oriented to the work around them — peers before executives — and to let roll-ups climb only after a human has curated them, so awareness informs the organization without turning into a monitoring feed pointed at individuals.

In a faithful implementation, Awareness assembles itself from the work — shipping, deciding, learning — and is offered to peers first, with executive roll-ups curated by a human before they climb. If status has to be chased, or the feed points at individuals, it isn't Awareness.
